ABOUT

The Ballybrack Film Project was an initiative undertaken by DigitalDub.ie's Michael Nolan and Keith Kelly from Jumpers for Goalposts.  The aim of the film was to tell the story of the south county Dublin townland, from quiet rural village situated between Dún Laoghaire and Bray, to the sprawling suburb it is today.  Simply titled, The Brack, initial research and production began in early 2022 with final edits made just before Christmas 2022.  It got its first showing to an invited audience of over 100 people in the Lexicon Theatre in Dún Laoghaire on January 21st 2023.  There was a great response to it.

While the film gives a brief history of the district in the 18th and 19th centuries the main focus is on the local authority housing estates that were developed on farm land surrounding the village during the 1970s and 80s.  We  hear from those who remember a time before the housing estates were built and those who made Ballybrack their home and raised families here since the 1970s.

It launches on general release on Youtube on Friday, February 3rd 2023 and is available below.

We'd like to extend a special thanks to Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and the IGO Inn Ballybrack for co-funding this project.  And we'd also like to thank CORE Credit Union, Dorans Pharmacy and Patrick O'Donovan & Sons Funeral Directors for their very generous additional sponsorship.  Without this support the project would not have been possible.
